Thank you Carole for hosting this blog hop. The challenge was to sew something with a summer theme. I apologize for my late post but I’m recovering from a fractured shoulder. While I don’t need surgery, I am a little more distracted lately.
Summer in our house is many things, including ice cream. I tell my “kids” that we can eat ice cream every day in the summer. Often on vacations, we hit up local artisan ice cream shops. Our favorite is still Cape Cod Creamery, but we are happy to keep looking for a new favorite as well.
Here is a summery little ice cream cone quilt with some matching doll outfits. Of course, it’s all in the mail for Amy at A Doll Like Me.
I’m calling this Strawberry Quilt after my favorite Cape Cod Creamery ice cream flavor. I didn’t remember to measure the quilt but it was about 22″ x 26″. This paper pieced ice cream came out a bit wonky, but it was the perfect centerpiece for my quilt. I imagined it was a cone with a swirl of vanilla and strawberry ice cream. It is a soft serve image that was a blast to make.
I found just the right paper pieced soft serve ice cream cone pattern. It wasn’t hard to make but I still flubbed a few of the pieces. I used it nonetheless, but will make a better one eventually for a future quilt. The pattern is from on Etsy and while not free, was only $4.00.
You can see the backing peeking out in the corner. It’s a lavender print with pink and green…a surprisingly perfect fit! The binding needed to be scrappy and it completes the design just as I had hoped. Below here are the little doll capris and peasant dress that I think would be a nice complement to the quilt. I used the last bits of that top ice cream fabric. It was a fun print while it lasted.
Thanks to everyone who took time to play, create and post. Check out the other wonderful projects and the Here Comes the Sun Pinterest page.
Your ice cream and cone look so yummy. They are my favorite way to eat ice cream. Love soft serve and you have captured it perfectly
